Georgios is a student of the master's programme in Electric Power Engineering and highlights the opportunities that are offered within KTH.

Why did you choose to study Electric Power Engineering?

In the field of Electric Power Engineering, KTH is ranked among the top universities in the world. Therefore, a Master of Science degree from KTH is an excellent asset to my career. 

What rendered the programme even more attractive was the flexibility that it offers to acquire state-of-the-art knowledge in various fields within power engineering, from both theoretical and practical perspectives. The possibility of shaping my own path and specialising myself in combining the areas of my interest had a vital role in selecting this programme. The close collaboration between KTH and industries and the opportunities for expanding my network within reputable industrial partners and researchers lead me to consider this as the ideal option for my career.

What are you learning?

I am currently studying the field of power electronics in depth since this field is the most intriguing to me, and I was astonished by the research level in the labs at KTH. To further expand my background in the area I approach it from different aspects such as electrified vehicles, power systems and control theory. I am currently implementing my skills during the project course which is also in collaboration with industries.

What is your own experience of the contact with teachers and industry representatives?

The fact that KTH is in close collaboration with both Swedish and international industries provides a chance for every student to expand his/her network, conduct their degree projects within the sector and after graduation have plenty of job opportunities. 

There are many seminars during the academic year which are held by companies and also a fair organised by the student union where companies come to KTH and present themselves; offering internships and opportunities in general. During this fair, I learned about SCANIA and a student programme in the frame of which I had a summer internship in the R&D department, and I have already planned my master thesis. 

I think all the professors and doctoral students at the department are open and willing to help you. They are supportive and eager to assist during studies and mentoring to prepare for your future career.

What advice would you give a prospective student?

I suggest that every new student, from the very first day, exploit the opportunities that are offered within KTH. These two years are everyone’s chance to build their own network and shape the path for a successful engineering career, tailored to one's skills and interests.
