Sri Janani comes India. She graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from Amrita University, India. She has two years’ experience working in the field of automotive passive safety. She loves cooking and food photography. She is also a big fan of yoga and dancing.
Why did you choose this master’s programme at KTH?
I am an Electrical and Electronics Engineer and I love programming. The Embedded Systems programme offers a good balance between both. Also, job prospects are generally high for embedded systems engineers throughout the world.
What are the best aspects of your programme?
The lab work is really good in all the courses. The lectures and lab sessions go hand-in-hand therefore making it easier for us to understand the lecture content and finish the labs effectively.
Have you chosen a specialisation track within the programme? If Yes, which track and why?
I am very much interested in designing systems and am also fond of programming and mathematics. The Embedded Systems Master’s programme, particularly the Embedded Control track, reflects the perfect combination of my interests.z
What are your favourite courses thus far?
Embedded Systems is the first course on the programme. This course is a necessary foundation for an embedded systems engineer and it gave me a clear idea about different aspects of embedded systems design. One of the least popular tasks in the tech industry is Code Testing. The Software Reliability course brilliantly explains the importance of testing and why it is necessary. Pattern Recognition and Machine Learning is a must for anyone who wants a good grasp of the fundamentals of machine learning.
How do studies at KTH differ from your previous studies?
Compared to my bachelor’s, the studies at KTH are much more practical. The courses are lab- and project-orientated. Learning is much more hands on and with less pressure.
How is student life in Stockholm?
Really enjoyable! I live in student accommodation, so you get to meet a lot of new people. We often cook together. The accommodation is usually close to nature so picnics and get-togethers are fairly frequent and really enjoyable. There are a lot of perks to being a student in Stockholm. Student discounts are available everywhere so it is financially beneficial.
How would you describe your time at KTH so far?
So far so good! The school offers freedom for the students to decide what they would like to achieve at the end of the programme. This freedom is reflected in the course selection. As a student I am not restricted to the courses prescribed by the programme curriculum. I have the freedom to choose courses outside the prescribed curriculum if I feel that they will add value to my learning. As KTH is a very diverse institution, it gives me a sense of belonging as I can meet and interact with people who are very similar to me in the sense that they are new to both the country and the culture.
What do you want to do after graduating?
I would like to work as a researcher in the auto industry.
What would you like to say to students thinking of choosing KTH for their master’s studies?
Please go for it! KTH and Sweden are worth exploring for the opportunities that are available and for the incredible people and culture.
