Doom comes from Benue State in Nigeria. Her home university is the University of Agriculture, Makurdi (UAM). She is a dreamer, a wife and a mother of three adorable children. She likes cooking and practicing yoga.
Why did you choose this master’s programme at KTH?
I chose KTH because of the high quality of education and research work. I read about the emphasis KTH places on student welfare, interactive activities, seminars, professional coaching and the holistic preparation for life after studies.
What are the best aspects of your programme?
My programme gives me first-hand experience of metallurgical processes, particularly in steel- making. Aspects such as laboratory sessions, group projects and company site visits help me to achieve study and practical work experience.
Have you chosen a specialisation track within the programme? If Yes, which track and why?
Yes. My specialisation is Materials and Process Design (MDNA). This track focuses on metallic materials, processes, structures and properties.
I have always been interested in metallurgy. This was my favourite course in my bachelor’s programme.
What are your favourite courses thus far?
My favourite course is Extractive Metallurgy. I also like Powder Metallurgy and Applied Thermodynamics.
How do studies at KTH differ from your previous studies?
There are many differences between my previous and current studies. At KTH there is more hands-on practical teaching sessions and the course lecturers encourage questions, personal contributions and challenging views. They also insist on being called by their first names, which was never the case in my previous school.
How is student life in Stockholm?
Student life is amazing. There are diverse cultures to absorb, places to visit (great architectural structures and landscapes), and activities you can manage on a budget due to the numerous student discounts that are offered. The only let down is the difficulty to find part-time jobs during the studies.
How would you describe your time at KTH so far?
My time here has been full and rewarding. I have grown so much and pushed myself out of my comfort zone. I have seized several opportunities to be involved in student body activities such as organising events, seminars, career fairs and even a nightcap for Nobel laureates.
What do you want to do after graduating?
Ideally, I would like to do a working PhD after I graduate. I want to gain some experience in the Swedish steel industry while also fulfilling my dream of teaching and conducting research.
What would you like to say to students thinking of choosing KTH for their master’s studies?
I would say, go for it! KTH not only offers high academic excellence but also personal growth. It will be a challenging, exciting and rewarding experience. You will gain lifetime global friendships and a plethora of avenues to help you achieve your goals.
