Wenqi describes Sweden with three words: peaceful, well-ordered, and gorgeous

Wenqi Wang is an international student at KTH. Originally from China, Wengi is studying the Master's programme in Engineering Materials Science and sees the close link between the corporate world and studies as one great aspect of the programme.

What made you decide to start studying at KTH?
KTH is well known in the world for its leading position in engineering. Furthermore, Sweden is a peaceful and beautiful country. That’s a good combination.

How did you decide which programme to choose?
I studied material science and engineering for my Bachelor’s degree and I wanted to continue with that.

What do you see as the greatest aspects of your programme?
There are many opportunities to connect with local companies. So the link between studies and actual work is quite close.

How do studies here at KTH differ in comparison to your previous experience?
There are much more group work to do at KTH compared to my previous studies.

What are your impressions of Stockholm and Sweden?
It is very peaceful and well-ordered. The scenery in Sweden is gorgeous.

Is there something about life in Stockholm and Sweden that has surprised you?
The weather of both summer and winter is totally different which I have never experienced before.

Do you have a place in the city that you enjoy spending time at?
I really like to spend time at Kungsträdgården [translation: The Royal Garden] since it is very near to the T-Centralen, so it's very convenient to get there. Thanks to the large square, it is a good place to enjoy the sunshine with friends in summer. Usually, there will also be some festival activities which are quite hilarious.

Could you describe a regular day as a student at KTH?
I get up one hour before the lecture begins since I live very closed to KTH. After the lectures I usually go to the supermarket to buy some food. Every Monday and Wednesday night I go to SFI [translation: Swedish for immigrants, a language course organized by the Swedish government] to study Swedish otherwise I go to KTH-Hallen and do sports.

Are you taking part in any student activities?
I have once been to the welcome party for international students in Nymble. It was really good experience and I had a lot of fun there.

What do you want to do after you have received your degree here at KTH?
I want to get a job in Sweden since it is not so stressed working here and I do like the environment in Sweden.

Is there any advice you would like to give others that will live in Stockholm and study at KTH in the future?
I have to say it is a really good choice to come to KTH to carry on your study and you will have a difference experience about the culture and weather here.
