Master's programme in Industrial Management

Hi Vittoria, what have you been doing since leaving KTH?

I am now employed at a management consulting firm, Sia Partners, working for the banking sector. Sia Partners is a firm with expertise in more than 30 sectors and services globally.

What can a regular day look like at your job?

There is no such thing as “routine" at my job. It’s really rare that two days look the same as I am involved in different types of projects, both internal and external.

Have you worked with anything else since you graduated?

At the beginning of my career, I had the awesome opportunity to work at Tieto in Stockholm as a project manager for an international financial client.

Why did you choose this programme at KTH?

I choose to study Industrial Management mostly due to its close relations with industry and I wanted to broaden my knowledge with the corporate business side as I did not want to spend all my working time just speaking to machines. Being an engineer, the programme helped me develop my analytical thinking. I also enjoyed the interaction between people and the business strategy side of things.

Is there any knowledge you acquired during your studies that has been particularly useful for you in your career?

In my still very short but quite broad career, I believe Industrial Management gave me methods for how to face multiple types of issues. This has been the best learning outcome that KTH gave me: giving me general tools that support me in different types of problems.

What were the best aspects of your studies at KTH?

The best aspect of KTH is the extensive range of opportunities that students have. Do you want to start a part-time job while studying? Do you want to be a volunteer in one of the many student organizations? Or would you rather prefer to learn a new language and discuss cultural differences? Is sport important for you and would you like to join a sports team? There is something for everyone, KTH gives you hundreds of opportunities. It is then up to you to choose what’s right for you.

What is your best memory from your time at the university?

All the people I met who were special. Students with a nice balance between being a hard worker and having strong extra-curricular passions. Furthermore, I can never forget all the opportunities that KTH gave me, such as being a teaching assistant and student ambassador.

What are your plans for the future?

Although I really enjoy my work at the consultancy firm right now, in the future I would like to work with environmental sustainability. My idea is to create a new company with a strong specialization in environmental sustainability (analyse processes to reach full circular economies, no waste, green energies, etc.). I believe we need to respect nature much more than we are currently doing.

What is it like living in Sweden?

Living in Sweden is "easy" as you get support from multiples sides (KTH, public institutions, etc). During the summer months, it is beautiful. If you love hiking, cycling or climbing, Sweden is definitely the place to be. During the winter months, it is a bit more difficult. I suggest investing some time during the winter months to learn Swedish. Even if everybody speaks English, for me, speaking Swedish has been important to feel at home in Stockholm.

What would you say to a student thinking of applying for this programme?

JUST DO IT. If you are already thinking of applying, it means you are ready to take the next step! Good luck and make your choice!
