Amina comes from Egypt and holds a Bachelor's in Mechanical Engineering from the American University in Cairo. She loves travelling and exploring new cultures and usually likes to incorporate adrenalin adventures.
What made you choose KTH and your specific programme?
After working in the supply chain industry for four years, I felt it was time for a change. I wanted to join a reputable university with a direct channel to the industry that has a high placement rate among graduates.
After doing some research, KTH became a no-brainer. Granted, Sweden is known for the very dark, cold winters which weren't something that I was entirely looking forward to, coming from a very sunny country. However, being the silicon valley of Europe made up for the bad weather. Not to mention that KTH is one of the most reputable universities in Europe and is known for its strong ties with the industry.
The master's programme in Industrial Management even takes it one step further by ensuring that you get a direct contact with the big organisations whether it's via study visits, case studies or guest lectures.
What are your impressions of Stockholm and Sweden?
Stockholm is one of the most photogenic countries I’ve ever seen. It is so beautiful and full of nature spots. For being the capital city, it’s very quiet and not super crowded. During the summer, it’s so nice outside that you’d want to walk to all your destinations rather than taking the metro.
During winter though, it’s quite the opposite - going outside could be a challenge but one you’ll overcome in no time. Sweden also offers a very high quality of living which sometimes means things can be costly. Food and transportation don’t come cheap here, but the standard is much higher than any other country I’ve been too. I remember feeling everything was in order and organised. Everything comes with a price I guess. Also, worth mentioning is that everyone here can speak English, it’s not their first language obviously, but they are all fluent.
What do you like most about being here?
The air of possibility and the feeling that the sky is the limit is one of the things I like the most about being in Stockholm and studying at KTH. You don’t feel any restrictions, you feel in control of your own future and path. It can be a bit overwhelming at first, then you get the hang of it and start prioritising.
KTH offers a lot of flexibility when it comes to studying different courses from other programmes or even from other universities such as Stockholm School of Economics. Sweden is a country in which you can plan your future and easily build a path for
What would you like to say to students thinking of choosing KTH for master’s studies?
Whatever stage of life you are in, don’t be afraid of change, take more risks and go on more adventures. Remember to spend your time wisely and focus on taking in the new opportunities that come your way. Don’t forget to make lots of friends, travel around Europe and get to see the Northern Lights!
