Hi, my name is Ruina Wang, I am from China. I’m going to be a second-year master’s student on the Media Management programme. I like plants, flowers and the natural environment in Sweden. These make me calm and relaxed. I also enjoy hanging out with friends during the summer.

Why did you choose this master’s programme at KTH?

I have a bachelor background in printing engineering. After I finished my bachelor’s study, with the exception of engineering knowledge, I wanted to know more about the management field. This led me to media management. This programme is a combination of media and management. I can apply my bachelor background and enter the new management field at the same time.

What are the best aspects of your programme?

This programme gives me the opportunity to meet people from different backgrounds at different ages. During the group work and the lectures, I have not only learned from the teacher but also from my classmates and how they solve the same problem from different perspectives. The programme also offers courses at SSE. SSE is one of the most professional schools of economics in Sweden and gives us further opportunities to choose what direction we want to take.

Have you chosen a specialisation track within the programme? If Yes, which track and why?

The Media Management programme has no tracks. We have courses in media direction and management direction. So you can choose whichever direction you want or take both; there are no limits.

What are your favourite courses thus far?

My favourite course at KTH is Managing Digital Transformation. This course is given by SSE but is also available on the KTH campus. This is a cutting-edge course, combining theories and application at the same time. All students are encouraged to ask about and promote different ideas.

How do studies at KTH differ from your previous studies?

Compared to my previous studies, KTH gives students more space and more freedom to develop themselves independently. I can take whatever course I want if it is suitable for me. I am not limited to the recommended course list that is provided by my programme. I can also take courses in computer science.

How is student life in Stockholm?

Stockholm is a very liveable city. The beautiful natural environment and historical buildings combined with the convenient public transportation system means that you will never be bored of life. During the weekends, I can spend my time visiting various museums, restaurants, shopping centres, or have a picnic with friends. This became a leisure activity after I arrived in Stockholm.

How would you describe your time at KTH so far?

It is interesting, challenging and fascinating. Time flies!

What do you want to do after graduating?

I want to work as a product manager. After one year of study, I feel clearer about my future career. The course setting in this programme is also helpful for my career.

What would you like to say to students thinking of choosing KTH for their master’s studies?

Studying at KTH will be an unforgettable experience for you and you will never regret your choice.
