Vijay says that the the opportunities he was given during the programme to explore the field are enormous
Vijay is from the south of India from the city of Hyderabad. His favorite way to kill time is to binge watch TV series, and he is also a Marvel fan. He studied the programme in Molecular Techniques in Life Science between 2018 and 2020.
What are your impressions of Stockholm and Sweden?
I should say that Stockholm never makes you feel lonely. It has so much to do and a lot to explore; I am sure you will suffer from the 'Stockholm Syndrome' once you leave this place. It becomes one with you. Lagom it is, and Lagom it will be. The places around Stockholm are unique in their own way, and I have a long way to go before saying that I have completely seen the city. Hope I catch up.
What made you choose KTH?
As I was looking for a master's programme in various countries, the work-life balance in Sweden attracted me. The research-centric system in Sweden and the opportunities it has to offer, apart from the fact that Sweden has one of the best education systems, brought me here. Graduating as a student of one of the leading universities in the world is a dream for many. Imagine being an alumnus of three such universities after the completion of this programme! Well, that sums up my choice to pursue MTLS at KTH.
What do you like most about KTH?
The master's programme I am enrolled in is offered by Karolinska Institute, Stockholm University, and KTH as the hosting one. We get the best from all three universities and a different experience each semester. KTH is a mixture of fun and study. The people we come across and the opportunities we are given to explore the field are enormous. I remember having a lecture from a person working at Celera speaking about the various applications of biotechnology in the market. We have a lot of such lectures from people leading in their respective fields, enlightening us about their work. PS: If you are too lazy to make lunch, find a lunch lecture. There is one almost every day at KTH.
What is your best memory from your time at KTH so far?
Apart from academia, we get many opportunities to travel, go hiking, and party with the other students at KTH. It helped me to socialize and gain a lot of friends and peers. I remember that a few of us had gone to the Bjornö Nature Reserve, and when we were in the middle of the hike, it started to snow. That was the first time I had experienced snow, and that memory holds a place in my heart. Apart from this, the bonfires, barbeques, the fika tradition, and weekend cruises got me attached to this place.
What would you like to say to students thinking of choosing KTH for master's studies?
I would suggest that everyone make good use of the opportunities given at KTH and explore different paths in the field of study. Who knows, you might have an idea that can change the world! KTH is here to support you in every way. So, make the best use of it.
What do you see as the most significant aspects of your programme?
The programme is such that we learn about the various techniques and applications of the high throughput technologies in the current scenario in the first semester, the art of analyzing the data obtained from the various technologies through bioinformatic tools in the second semester, and the third semester offers a variety of applications and technological advancements in biosciences apart from statistical analysis of the data. The project course that acts as a bridge to the master's thesis helps us get an understanding of the thesis and the work going on in the field.
