Why did you choose this master’s programme at KTH?

My previous work experiences have made me aware of the importance of technology and management in the real estate and construction area and the more cutting-edge areas of the industry, like BIM and green building. With some practical experience, I can better know what knowledge I still need to learn and which area I like most in real estate. KTH is a real estate and construction management pioneer, especially in the green building and environmental protection area. A community of industry-leading experts and diverse student peers are invaluable to the study. It’s fantastic to learn from the professional faculty here.

Have you chosen a specialization track within the programme?

There are several tracks in the Real Estate and Construction Management programme, including construction management, economy, valuation and development, contract and law. We can freely choose the track that most interests us. Based on my past studying and work experience, I am more involved in site construction and management. I wish to gain a more comprehensive understanding of different areas in the real estate industry. So, I want to learn more about the economy, finance and real estate valuation. Besides that, we can also have courses from other schools, and I can gain more knowledge about programming, which will help me use the data analysis tool to analyze real estate problems more precisely.

What are some of your favourite courses so far?

Advanced Valuation and Analysis (AI2154) is a course that applies and analyses traditional and advanced real estate valuation methods. This is my favourite course because, besides the knowledge from a book, the professor invites guest speakers from famous valuation companies, banks and governments to introduce a different perspective to us. It’s wonderful that we can talk to the professors in each co-related industry with real estate and have a more comprehensive understanding of real estate valuation.

Real Estate Market Analysis and Development (AI 2102) is another course that I like. In addition to the lectures, professors organized us to visit several real estate projects and invited the project manager to give guest lectures to us. We make the market analysis on ongoing projects, providing us with more practical experience. I think the best way to learn knowledge is not just learning from the book but learning from the process of doing.

What do you want to do after graduating?

Before I came to Stockholm, I had never thought about settling down in Stockholm. I always planned to go back to China after graduating. I gradually became used to the lifestyle here and fell in love with it. The beautiful scenery, multicultural society, and work-life balance make me unwilling to leave here. After graduation, I plan to get a job and live here, and I believe it would be the best choice. Now I am learning Swedish and trying to restart my career and life here. And I plan to visit every country of the whole Europe to enjoy a more diverse world and a more colourful life.

How is student life in Stockholm?

I can say that I have had a wonderful student life here at KTH and in Stockholm. I like the student life at KTH because I can freely communicate with professors and my classmates here. I have made friends from different countries, experienced different cultures, and seen a bigger world from them. Student life in Stockholm comprises an inclusive cultural environment, a diverse way of life, a beautiful natural environment and a state of harmony between people and nature. I love it here and am grateful for the decision I made to choose KTH finally and wish to share more about my experience and feeling with each of you.
