Industrial Engineering and Management

KTH offers 12 master's programmes within the subject area covering aspects of manufacturing, energy and management. They focus on the development of societal services, products, materials and production processes in ways that are technically cutting-edge, economically profitable and sustainable. KTH is a highly ranked university in this area, for example, top 30 in the world within the topic Materials Science.

Decentralized Smart Energy Systems (Joint Erasmus+)

Decentralized smart energy systems play a vital part in the transition towards a low carbon society by integrating renewable energy sources in the energy system. Students acquire skills to design, size, optimize and operate these energy systems. Graduates have a holistic overview of decentralized energy systems, specialized competencies in energy engineering and a strong international network.

Engineering Design

The programme covers product development and its growing complexity driven by rising demands for functionality, sustainability and innovation. Students in the programme acquire essential technical and organisational skills for the successful development and engineering of a wide range of technical products. The programme consists of two tracks offering specialised expertise in key areas of engineering design: Machine Design and Mechatronics.

Engineering Materials Science

The programme has a cross-functional approach, focusing on the understanding of existing materials, processes and applications, as well as the development of new ones. Students can specialise in Industrial Materials, Materials and Process Design, or Sustainable Materials. Graduates have valuable expertise in materials science needed in many industries and sectors, for example, manufacturing, automotive and energy.

Entrepreneurship and Innovation Management (One year)

The programme explores the nature of innovation and entrepreneurship and how to harness its inherent potential. It combines theoretical aspects of the field with a self-defined master's degree project. Students acquire necessary skills to start and manage projects, including business model innovation, leadership and communication. Graduates have the tools to lead new business ventures and start-ups.

Environomical Pathways for Sustainable Energy Systems (Joint EIT InnoEnergy)

The programme equips students with skills to minimise the environmental impact of current and future energy systems. Students gain a broad knowledge of energy systems and follow a specialisation in, for example, Energy Efficiency, Solar Systems or Offshore Energy. Students also acquire skills in innovation and commerce. Eight universities offer the programme through EIT InnoEnergy.

Industrial Management

The programme targets students with a profound engineering background who aim to take leadership positions in industrial and technology-based organisations. Students acquire an understanding of value creation and specialise in areas such as management, leadership, supply chain, industrial transformation, managing research and innovation, strategy and industrial marketing. The programme has extensive industry interaction throughout.

Innovative Sustainable Energy Engineering (Joint Nordic Five Tech)

The programme focuses on energy systems designs with economically and environmentally sustainable technologies. Students are awarded degrees from two leading Nordic universities and explore the unique energy engineering expertise of these universities through a specialisation track. Graduates know practices, policies and technologies to supply energy at the least financial, environmental and social cost.

Integrated Product Design

The programme teaches students to create sustainable products, services, systems and business models. In one of two distinct specialisations, students explore either design and functionality aspects of products in relation to users and markets, or the management of innovation and product development processes. Graduates have the expertise for careers in a wide range of industrial and business sectors.

Production Engineering and Management

The programme handles the engineering and management aspects of production and how they interact. The engineering side includes manufacturing technologies, automation, maintenance, and production development tools and methods. The management side includes operations strategy, planning and management of resources for a sustainable production environment. Graduates work in various production fields worldwide.

Sustainable Energy Engineering

The programme provides advanced education in solar energy, power generation, energy utilisation and transformation of energy systems. Students gain a multidisciplinary foundation in energy engineering and skills to manage complex energy related problems with a lifecycle perspective. Graduates lead the development in the energy sector with skills and insights in industrial challenges, leadership, innovation and entrepreneurship.

Sustainable Production Development

The programme focuses on the sustainable design and development of production systems. Students gain skills to create advance production systems and transition existing systems with a focus on circular material flow, increased digitalisation and automation, energy usage as well as new manufacturing technologies. Graduates shape the future development of sustainable production with influential roles in industry and consultancy or through PhD studies.

Turbomachinery Aeromechanical University Training (Joint)

The programme focuses on aeromechanics in turbomachines. Students acquire specialised knowledge in how turbomachines like jet engines, steam turbines and gas turbines operate and how to make them more efficient, reliable and affordable. The programme combines the expertise and facilities of the partnering institutes: KTH, Université de Liège, Duke University and Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.
