What made you choose KTH and Sweden for your studies?

Before the end of my Bachelor’s programme in Mechanical Engineering, I already knew I was going to further my education in the energy sector. I chose KTH because I liked the programme structure presented for Sustainable Energy Engineering. I am someone who is not only interested in the technologies of the energy industry, but also its management and business aspect. KTH was offering all these as a single programme. Furthermore, education at KTH is well known for its high quality, and Sweden is known worldwide as a sustainable country. Because my affinity for solving energy problems extends to ensuring its sustainability, I applied for the programme knowing it was a step in the direction of fulfilling my future plans.

What do you like most about KTH?

I like the fact that we are not spoon-fed. Yes, the basics are taught in class, but through the various projects and assignments we are taught to continuously think outside the box. As an engineer, I believe this is of paramount importance because it will help develop the needed skills to solve real-life problems. In my case, energy problems around the world.

What are your impressions of Stockholm and Sweden?

Stockholm is a beautiful city, and I would say I am amazed by the diversity represented in Stockholm. Also, it is a picturesque city, and if you long for the serenity that comes with the beauty of nature, then Stockholm would make your wishes come true.
Yes, the official language is Swedish, but everyone speaks English. Stockholm is an innovation hub; start-ups everywhere. I have met many amazing and forward-thinking individuals here.

What is your best memory from your time at KTH so far?

So many good memories, it is tough to pick one. In between the times I have spent working in groups, making memories with friends or deep conversations with my professors, or the various activities KTH has offered me the opportunity to be part of, there lie the moments I treasure the most. At the core of all these, this saying rules, “Find a group of people who challenge and inspire you, spend a lot of time with them, and it will change your life."

Are there any differences between studying at KTH and your home university?

1. Yes, the education in KTH promotes more freedom and teamwork; in the same programme and track, students choose their path based on their interests. For the thesis, students have the freedom to decide to work in collaboration with companies or institutions in Sweden or any part of the world based on their interests and their future plans.
2. Project courses. The teachers present the general requirements, and the students decide how they want to complete these projects. With these, we learn so much from each other, and these projects are created to solve either the needs of a certain industry or to adequately prepare students for the real world.
3. At KTH, there are a lot of opportunities for collaboration with industry. Beginning from the various career fairs to the guest lectures from people in the industry and the various activities organised in the school to feed all our interests.
4. It gives you the opportunity to be a well-rounded individual. As much as I am very interested in the energy industry, I also love writing, music, presenting at events, and networking at events. At KTH, you can pursue your technical degree but also be involved in various activities that develop other skills you might have.

What would you like to say to students thinking of choosing KTH for master’s studies?

This programme has a lot to offer, especially with the project courses. During your master’s programme, find people who will challenge you as you work on the various projects; you can learn a lot from your peers. Also, from the beginning, pay attention to your interests because there will be a vast range of choices for you to create a path that will work for you. Finally, Stockholm has a lot of activities going on, you just have to open your mind and heart to find the opportunities in it all.

Are you taking part in any student activities?

Yes, I am involved in various student activities. Currently I am a KTH blogger as well as a member of the student council for this programme. I also volunteered for the logistics team for THS Armada and volunteered for KTH Green Week – writing marketing articles. Lastly, I am part of the Future Leaders Global Network, Stockholm.
