Md Aquif says that KTH offers various opportunities for students to develop professional qualities

Md Aquif comes from Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh, the country with the largest mangrove forest Sunderban and home to the Royal Bengal tiger. He completed his undergraduate studies at Islamic University of Technology (I.U.T). He studied at KTH between 2017 and 2019.

What made you choose KTH and your master's programme?

While working as a mechanical engineer in the industry, I realised that the products we produce consume a lot of natural resources. To learn more about how the use of these resources can be minimised and how the concept of the circular economy can be applied to the industrial field, I started looking for universities and programmes. It was then that I came across the Sustainable Technology programme, which is based on Industrial Ecology.

Are there any differences between studying at KTH and your home university?

After going through the offered courses and the available options, I decided to opt for this degree. Most of the courses had group projects that were quite different from my undergrad studies. But after completing my first year, now I realise how important the group works have been. Besides group works, there are always study visits to different companies to learn first hand the theories that are taught in class. This helps to relate the theoretical knowledge with practical applications.

What is your best memory from your time at KTH so far?

In one of the visits, we went to Gothenburg, which has been the best memory of mine so far at KTH. Other than that, Sweden is focused on sustainability. This gives a unique opportunity to learn from different sectors about how they are implementing the concept of industrial ecology in practical life. The city of Stockholm itself has a lot to offer in this regard, given the different companies situated in the area. Stockholm, being the capital of Scandinavia, has a lot to offer for the students other than formal education. From the quietest natural parks to the loudest music in the clubs, it has something to offer for everyone from everywhere.

Are you taking part in any student activities?

Stockholm and KTH offer different opportunities for students to develop professional qualities. Participating in various activities helps the students to build networks and gain unique experiences. I personally actively participated in the reception of the new students and also engaged myself with THS activities. This helped me explore my own potential.

What would you like to say to students thinking of choosing KTH for master's studies?

If you want a high-quality education and want to broaden your horizon, develop your potential, and enjoy a truly international student life with lots of fun activities, KTH is the right place for you.
