Hillert Materials Modeling Tutorial series: Thermo-Calc

A hands-on tutorial

The software package Thermo-Calc has developed a lot since it was introduced over 40 years ago. This is an introduction to what Thermo-Calc can do today. In this hands-on tutorial Dr. Åke Jansson will also show how the actual calculations are performed, starting from a very basic level and moving on to more complex problems.

Time: Tue 2023-01-31 14.00 - 16.00

The software package Thermo-Calc was introduced over 40 years ago. At first it was a tool for CALPHAD specialists in select universities in Europe, but just a few years later early adoptors in steel industry understood its value and began using the software for alloy development.

However, this is not going to be a historical exposé, but an introduction to what Thermo-Calc can do today - which of course is very different than in its early days.

Most of the time will be spent on showing how the actual calculations are performed, starting from a very basic level and moving on to more complex problems.

Teacher

Åke Jansson

Åke Jansson has been an employee of Thermo-Calc Software almost since the company's start in 1997. Before that he earned his Ph.D. in Materials Science at KTH with Professor Bo Sundman as supervisor.

For Thermo-Calc he has travelled extensively around the world giving lectures, conference talks, work shops and training courses related to software and methods within the field of computational thermodynamics.
