Encapsulating human cells for novel cancer treatments

Implanting drug-producing cells inside a tumor is investigated as a new tool for more efficient cancer therapy with lower side effects.

Xiamo Zhou, PhD student in the team of Prof. Wouter van der Wijngaart , has now succeeded in efficiently encapsulating human cells in microparticles with a diameter equal to that of a human hair. Their results have been published in the journal Advance Functional Materials . An introductory video to this technology is found here .
