Differential Geometry and General Relativity
Differential geometry is a branch of mathematics that studies curved spaces, also known as manifolds, and geometric structures on them. A geometric structure could for example be a notion of distance, angle, volume or curvature. Einstein's theory of general relativity is formulated in the language of differential geometry and such geometric structures model matter and the gravitational field in the universe.
In our research group, we are particularly interested in partial differential equations on manifolds and applications in differential geometry and general relativity. Our interests include:
- Mathematical cosmology
- Nonlinear wave equations
- Black holes
- Mass in general relativity
- Ricci flow
- Riemannian Einstein manifolds
