Abstract

We will give a friendly introduction to the local Langlands conjectures, paying attention to its origins and its historical development. Next we will discuss in a non-technical way the main goals in the study of the harmonic analysis and the Plancherel Theorem for a reductive group G. Towards the end of the talk we bring the two themes together and dicuss existence and uniqueness of a local Langlands reciprocity map (joint work with Y. Feng and M. Solleveld) for so-called unipotent representations, compatible with the Plancherel measure of G. This proves in particular a conjecture of Hiraga, Ichino and Ikeda for said representations.
