Abstract: The most well-understood part of the homotopy groups of spheres is the \(v_1\)-periodic part, closely related to the image of the J-homomorphism. I will describe work with Dan Isaksen and Hana Jia Kong that completely computes the \(\mathbb{R}\)-motivic analogue of this classical result. No prior exposure to motivic homotopy theory will be assumed.
