Abstract

I will review connections, first conjectured 50 years ago, between random matrices and the Riemann zeta-function. These concern, for example, the statistical distribution of the zeros of the zeta function and the values the zeta function takes on the line where the Riemann Hypothesis asserts all its zeros lie. This connection has stimulated a good deal of research both in Random Matrix Theory and Number Theory, with a particular focus recently on extreme values.
