Abstract:

Rademacher sums are a natural and valuable tool to construct spaces of modular and mock-modular forms explicitly. Their importance goes beyond just a computational tool, however. In several known examples of moonshine, the defining properties of the functions that show up as graded traces of the modules can be translated to the language of Rademacher sums. I will discuss this connection and use my recent work on Thompson moonshine as a specific example of this phenomenon.
