Thomas Blom: Profinite versions of Quillen model categories

Abstract

In this talk, I will review a general method for constructing model structures on pro-categories, described in the preprint arxiv.org/abs/2009.07539 . This construction yields various known model structures on pro-categories, such as that of Quick describing the homotopy theory of profinite spaces, while it also produces many new "profinite" variants of known model structures. Examples of such include model categories for profinite stratified space, profinite infinity-categories and profinite infinity-operads. If time permits, I will also describe how our methods can be used to obtain a model category of noncommutative CW-complexes.
