Abstract

I will discuss a result of mine which establishes the linear stability of the Schwarzschild solution as a solution to the Einstein equations when expressed in a generalised wave gauge. Key to the proof is the identification of the well-known Regge--Wheeler gauge as a generalised wave gauge, the result thus clarifying certain classical insights from the physics literature. At the end of the talk I shall also briefly discuss some of my current research concerning the black hole stability problem in a generalised maximal gauge.
