Tobias Malmgren: Analysens Fundamentalsats

Abstract

In this thesis we study one of the most central theorems in mathematics, the fundamental theorem of calculus. After going through some basic notations we will take a look at the history behind the origins of the theorem and the development of methods for calculating areas bounded by curves. Lastly we will go through Isaac Barrows proof for the fundamental theorem, make an attempt at translating it into more modern terms and draw a conclusion about whether or not Barrows was one of the founders of the theorem.
