About the Department of Engineering Design
The research and education at Engineering Design concerns products in a broad sense: physical phenomena, surface and component characteristics, design of engineering systems, product and service systems design, and organization and management of those who conduct product development and innovation.

The development of society as a whole and the ability of Swedish industry to compete internationally are highly dependent on our capability of innovation, design and development of new, better and more attractive products.
The overall mission of the department of Engineering Design is to serve industry and society on a long term basis by developing and delivering excellent knowledge and highly skilled people. This means that the same high attention is paid to the quality of both research and education.

Our vision is to be an innovative and attractive organisation for work and study. We deliver excellent research and education and are actively contributing to a sustainable development of society.
Research areas
Research at the department focuses on technical, economic, environmental and human considerations in the product development process and is characterized by extensive industrial cooperation and international partnerships. The research is conducted by a multifaceted faculty that represents different disciplines and have different backgrounds from around the world, providing a rich and dynamic environment.

Infrastructure
Experimental and laboratory research is a important key part in many of our research projects. Practical work in designing and manufacturing products is also an important part in our teaching. We have a constantly developing lab environment and also offer services in model and prototype production.
