Predicting and preventing forest fires with AI-technology

Learn more about the latest AI technology within the FIRE project, offering a new way to predict and prevent forest fires.

Forestry machines cause 200–500 fires annually in Sweden, and the risk is expected to increase due to climate change. Within the FIRE project, KTH Royal Institute of Technology, RISE Research Institutes of Sweden, Skogforsk, and Swedish Civil Contingencies Agency are developing AI-based sensors to assess ignition risk locally and in real time. KTH doctoral student Filip Strand explains and demonstrates, among other things: the current forest fire situation, today’s risk assessments, new research findings on ignition sources, and future tools for site-specific risk assessment.
