Blue-green nexus of urban biodiversity imaginaries:

The board game co-creation round table at EU-SPRI conference in Valencia, Spain. 10-12 June 2026

The roundtable is organized as an activity in the ongoing project Urban biodiversity challenges and citizen science , based at the Division for History of Science, Technology and Environment, funded by Riksbankens Jubileumsfond. During the roundtable session participants will discuss some of the examples of biodiversity board games that are set out to engage with the participants in learning activities. The venue will discuss questions, such as:

  • How is urban biodiversity imagined and portrayed?
  • What characterizes different types of imaginaries?
  • How is biodiversity represented in dialogues with different user groups?

We are looking forward to insightful discussions, focusing on both biodiversity discourses articulating biodiversity concerns in narratives of extinction and dystopian imaginaries, contrasted by those representing technological optimism and techno-fix to biodiversity challenges. In the light of these challenges, some initiatives start to emerge at the local level and there is scope for learning from examples from different national contexts.
