Miyase Christensen in new SU Project on Covid 19, Media and Trust in Stockholm
Together with Christian Christensen (prof. of journalism, Stockholm University), Miyase Christensen received funding from the Swedish Research Council/Formas and The Swedish Civil Contingencies Agency (MSB) for a one-year research project, placed at Stockholm University. The project will examine Covid-19, media and trust in Stockholm. How and where did the people in Sweden’s capitol receive their information?
With this new project Miyase and Christian want to try to gain a better understanding of how well the media's 'ecosystem' worked among the more exposed groups in Stockholm. Covid-19 had a large impact on certain minorities in Stockholm such as Somalis and Syrians who suffered two to three times more deaths than the city average. The project investigates how well local and national media monitored the development, and how well the information from local authorities reached out. "The goal is to see how we can learn to become better at communicating effectively in future health crises", says Miyase and Christian to imu.se.se .
Miyase Christensen is a professor of media at Stockholm University, and a long time co-worker of the Division. Miyase's current work with us is with the Crosscuts Festival for Film and Text and in the InsScide project together with Nina Wormbs in a case study on Arctic monitoring and assessments as windows into science diplomacy.
