CHARMS – Characterization of Machining Systems

Motivation

  • Machine tool testing need new and easy to use methodologies and tools to identify, monitor and control the machine tool condition
  • Process planning need new and easy to use methodologies and tools in the early phase of product realization for quality assurance and machining system capability utilisation to produce required part

Goals

  • Develop new innovative methods for characterisation of machining systems for increased manufacturing performance
  • Integration of machining system capability (MSC) and manufactured part characteristic into a unified framework

Approach

  • Development of the MSC principle and concept (MSC theory framework)
  • Adaption of existing measurement instruments and development of usage methodologies for industrial applications.
  • Development of software for usage of MSC data for increased machining system utilization
  • Demonstration of the developed methods, instruments and software for a selected industrial case
