Remove or Change Data
Removing and changing data is based on reading a database
after all other databases.
The order in which databases are
searched can be changed using the pull-down menu
Options / Data / Database files.
The order is important because for two species with the same name
(but different logK° value),
only the last one will be retained.
Single User
(when there is a copy of DATABASE/SPANA installed on your computer):
- change a logK-value by entering the new value using the menu
Options / Data / Add data!.
A new logK-file (default name: New-Data.txt) and the
corresponding element-file (New-Data.elt)
are then created and these files
are read after reading the binary database supplied with DATABASE. For two species
with the same name (but different logK° value),
only the last one read will be retained.
- remove components from the list for an element by adding a new component
with the same name but preceeding the name with a @
(in menu Options / Data / Add data!).
For example, adding @Fe 2+
linked to Fe removes Fe(II) from the
components available for iron.
- remove reactions by adding a new species with the same name but inserting
a @ at the beginning of the name.
For example, to remove the species FeOH 2+
just add a species named @FeOH 2+.
The logK° value is not used, because the species will be removed.
Running on a Network server:
- Each user may change or remove data as indicated above.
The database New-Data is then saved locally on a user directory.
- To make collective changes and deletions of data if DATABASE has been
installed on a network server, and all users run the same program file:
- Create the database New-Data as indicated above for a single user.
- Move then the files that you created (for example New-Data.elt
and New-Data.txt)
to the network directory where the DATABASE program is located.
- Start the DATABASE program (from the network server) and use the
pull-down menu Options / Data / Database files
to add your new database (New-Data.txt, newly created and moved
to the network folder) as the last database in the list. Then
close the DATABASE program.
The database list will be stored in the
ini-file
in the network directory.
In this way the new data are then automatically used by all users. See also
