# Chemical Equilibrium Calculations software
============================================

## Download
-----------
Download the zip-file to your desktop, or to
your home directory.

Double-click on the zip-file from the file manager: it will
be automatically un-zipped (Ubuntu 24). Double-click on
the new folder to move into it. There you will find three
'readme' files and the folder 'Eq-Diagr'. Move the
'Eq-Diagr' folder either to your home directory
(/home/userName) or anywhere else.

If you use "Archive Manager" or the "File Roller", extract
the "Eq-Diagr" folder, either to your home directory
(/home/userName) or anywhere else. Make sure that "Re-create
folders" or "Keep folder structure" and
"Overwrite existing files" are checked.

You may now delete (move to trash) the zip-file and its
un-zipped folder. You may also move to trash the subfolders
"MacOS-files" and "Windows-files".

## No install needed
--------------------
You may use the software directly from the folder "Eq-Diagr".

See section below about installing JAVA, which is needed
to run the software.

The `jar`-files may be launched from a Terminal
using the command:
    java -jar path/name.jar
where 'path' is the location of the 'Eq-Diagr' folder,
perhaps `~/Documents/Eq-Diagr` and 'name.jar' is
one of the `jar`-files, such as 'Spana.jar'.
For exmple, entering in the Terrminal
    java -jar ~/Documents/Eq-Diagr/Chem_Diagr_Help.jar
will launch the help system.

### Create desktop icons
------------------------
The script file "ubuntu-files/0_installDesktop.sh" may be used
to create desktop-files (desktop icons). You can run it from
within a terminal or from the file manager: navigate to folder
"ubuntu-files", right-click on file "0_installDesktop.sh"
and choose "Run as a Program". This will create desktop
files for the Spana and DataBase programs. NOTE: in Ubuntu,
when the desktop files have been created, you must right-click
on each one and select "Allow Launching".

Double-click on the desktop icons to launch either Spana
or DataBase.

### Create scripts that run on a terminal
-----------------------------------------
The script file "ubuntu-files/0_installCmdLine.sh" creates two
scripts ('spana' and 'database') in folder '/bin'. With these
two scripts you can use the software from either a terminal, or
from within other scripts, just by entering "spana" or "database"
at the terminal.

### Associate file types with Spana
----------------------------------
Please search the internet, for example:
"ubuntu associate file extension with application"

## Java is needed
-----------------
If java is not installed, double clicking on a jar file will
not run the program. You may check this: open a terminal
(Ctrl-Alt-T), and type "java". The message will tell you if
java is installed or not. If java is not installed you will
need to install it; type:
   sudo apt-get install default-jre
(to un-install: sudo apt-get remove openjdk*)

## Uninstall
------------
Just remove the directory "Eq-Diagr" folder, and move to trash
any desktop icons.
