About me

With a background in Urban Planning and Design, Cornelis' research now aims at combining urban design with safety strategies. His PhD thesis entitled "Crime clusters and safety in underground stations" dealt with the dynamics of crime and safety in and around subway stations by assessing crime distributions over space and time in relation to the environmental and social characteristics of the city.

As the director of eSCAPE Studio, he works on public and private projects that aim to analyze the urban environment in terms of safety and discover ways to improve safety in new development projects. eSCAPE Studio provides public and private sectors with a pair of extra hands in visualizing their projects and provides safety assessments to improve urban developments.

Currently, Cornelis works on a collaborative project at the school of Architecture and the Built Environment analyzing the dynamics of suicides at rail roads in Stockholm.
