About me

Hej! I began my PhD in July 2015 at KTH, in the Department of Materials and Nanophysics. I am part of the Rare Earth Lasers and Integrated Devices (RELID) group of Professor Markus Pollnau, our research is part of the ERC funded project Optical Ultra Sensors (OPUS).

I work with Al2O3 waveguide lasers on a silicon platform, doped with rare earth ions such as Ytterbium and Neodymium. The waveguide structures have a Bragg grating on the top cladding, which provides a distributed feedback for the laser operation and allows extremelly narrow linewidth lasers, with a coherence length from here to the moon! The high Q-factor of the laser devices can be explored, and by means of interfering two laser lines in the same device it is possible to generate a beat signal in the microwave region, which is envisaged for sensing applications.
