Jun Zhang

I am a post-doc researcher at the division of Robotics, Perception and Learning (RPL), closely working with Prof. John Folkesson's group. I obtained my Ph.D. degree from the Australian National University (ANU), M.Sc.Eng. and B.Eng. degrees from Northwestern Polytechnical University (NPU).

My research interests lie in the area of robotics and vision, particularly in visual odometry/SLAM (simultaneous localization and mapping), structure from motion and 3D vision, etc. At RPL, I will be working on AUV underwater SLAM via side scan sonar (SSS) and/or multibeam echo sounders (MBES), exploring potential possibility of new perception methods via SSS (front-end), and optimization solutions (back-end). I am also open to possible collabrations inside and outside RPL.

When I’m not doing research I enjoy a variety of hobbies, especially playing soccer and photography. I am also interested in trying new things :-)
