About me

Makarand is doing research in Electromagnetic Compatibility Issues related to Solar Photovoltaics. He works with Prof. Daniel Månsson and Prof. Nathaniel Taylor.

He completed his Ph.D. from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Bombay, Mumbai, India. The research was targeted at the efficient production of silicon wafers using Wire Electric Discharge Machining (WEDM). It is an established machining process for metals. For his thesis, he investigated the pulse generator topologies, electromagnetic forces, and electrical characterization of WEDM to make it more suitable for semiconductors. A brief account of his work can be found here.

He has completed his M.Tech. (masters) from EE Dept., IIT Bombay in 2011 where he specialized in Power Electronics and Power Systems. His project was focused at high-frequency modelling of transformer windings using multiconductor transmission line models. He completed his B.Tech. degree from Government College of Engineering, Pune (COEP) in 2008.

Makarand has four years of industrial experience in the automotive sector. He worked for the research centre of Tata Motors Ltd. in Pune. His profile included the design of traction motors for electric vehicles and the electromagnetic design of automotive components.

List of patents and publications in his name can be found here.
