Projects

  • Reduction of dust in a blast furnace charged with 100% iron ore pellets.

In the blast furnace (BF) process dust is generated, which exits with the off-gases, resulting in a loss of valuable raw materials and increased energy need per produced tonne of hot metal. The amount of dust is strongly related to the choice of ore feed. BFs with only pellet, i.e. all Nordic BFs, generate more dust than BFs with sinter as main ore feed. The project aims at reducing the amount of exiting dust from BFs.
  • Investigations of Rare Earth Metal - oxide inclusions and clusters.

In recent years, additions of rare earth metals (REM) to steel has gained considerable attention due to their beneficial effects. However, steels deoxidized with REM alloys are difficult to produce due to the tendency of REM-oxides to form cluster and clog the nozzle during casting. The aim of project is to understand formation and growth of REM oxide clusters.

Research Interests

  • Iron making - focus on sustainability.
  • Clean steel production
  • Dust formation during iron making processes.
  • Particle analyses - particles produced during iron and steel making process.
  • Investigations of Non-metallic inclusions; Three dimensional (3D) and two dimensional (2D)
  • Material Characterization (SEM, EDX, Metallography, Miro-hardness, Tribology)
