Patricia Nelson

Having lived, worked and studied in the US, Japan, Sweden and the UK, it is not surprising that my academic work is comparative. My research areas (in comparative perspective) are: the evolution of the digital imaging industry, the role and function of business institutions and associations (and their related industry organizations) and the impact of innovation on regional trade & supply chains and how those business interests influence international trade politics.

Blending international political economy with historical institutionalism, my teaching and research encompass international business, international economics, innovation, industrial and technological change. I have been awarded post docs and research grants from Harvard University, the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science, and the Japan Foundation, among others, and held posts at academic institutions including the Center for Strategic and International Studies, the Stockholm School of Economics, the University of Edinburgh Management School, the University of Tokyo and Hitotsubashi University.
