SunShell

The sculpture Sunshell is a shell of a mud snail that is enlarged to a thousand times its natural size and is vital to the ecological balance.
Bigert and Bergström is a contemporary artist's duo.
At the top is a heliostat – a mirror that follows the path of the sun thanks to computerized motors, reflecting the sun’s rays to the inner core of the shell.
The device took around 3 months to complete, from design to construction. The solar tracker will eventually be mounted with a mirror. This is one piece of the final installation which will direct sunlight at the center point in the Sunshell throughout the day.
