Sustainability at Ericsson - Using technology in smart ways to become more sustainable
Guest Lecturer: Jens Malmodin, Ericsson Research
Content:
The lecture will give an overview of how Ericsson addresses sustainability both from the environmental, social and economic perspective and with examples from ongoing projects and business activities. The lecture will primarily focus on the use of environmental Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) for mobile broadband technology and in a broader perspective for the whole ICT sector.
LCA is the preferred methodology for being able to measure environmental impact and it has become a fundamental tool for Ericsson. How exact we are able to measure this can and will be addressed and discussed in the lecture, but perhaps a more important question is: Can we afford to not try our best?
The lecture will give students insights based on LCA and on how ICT and mobile broadband technologies can and have been improved in terms of a sustainability. More important though is how these technologies can be used in various ways to improve and make other products, services and activities more sustainable, including other industry sectors, our private lives and - in the end - our society.
