Modern theories on innovation and entrepreneurship, on industrial and technical change, on the firm, and on management of all this are to a large extent based on evolutionary and institutional economic theory. This is an in depth course on that theoretical foundation.

Lärandemål

The aim of the course is to

  • provide qualified insight in the knowledge base for modern evolutionary and institutional approaches within research on entrepreneurial processes, innovation, industrial and technical change and its management
  • provide an epistemological ground for analysis/critique of evolutionary and institutional approaches within the above mentioned areas of knowledge
  • relate evolutionary and institutional approaches to their historical context thus contributing to an insight on their roles in knowledge formation processes
  • provide analytical/reflective tools for course participants to apply on their PhD projects

Kursens huvudsakliga innehåll

The course contains the following items:

  • Evolutionary theory within natural and social science – epistemology and history
  • Schumpeterian and neo-Schumpeterian economic theory of change
  • Fundamentals of evolutionary processes: concepts and processes
  • Institutional theory/economics
  • Individually selected focus project

Krav för slutbetyg

  • Active participation in, and presentation of written literature based reflection papers at, three seminars
  • Presentation of course paper on a selected topic of relevance for the course (may be connected to the participants PhD project)
