Content and learning outcomes

Course contents

The course covers practical and theoretical aspects of communication, media and communication systems, the relation between cognitive, social and technical factors for the development of and use of (new) media technologies and communication systems. The course also covers practical and laborative parts where the students use and learn to master different communication and media technologies. The course furthermore contains parts that cover problem description and the significance of technological innovations, which are central for the students future profession as civil engineers and/or high school techers in the natural sciences and technical subjects.

Intended learning outcomes

The objective of the course is that the student shows

* advanced understanding of the interdisciplinary field communication, media technology and cultural theory;

* advanced understanding of cognitive, institutional, social and technical conditions for media production and media use;

* advanced understanding of modern theories of mediated communication and other communication and socio-cultural processes.

After completed course the student shall

* be well prepared to understand and competently deal with communication situations and different media technologies in university courses and in her/his future professional life;

* be able to describe and discuss questions in the interdisciplinary field communication, media technology and cultural theory in a reflective and methodological fashion;

* be able to independently read and make use of recent research literature in the interdisciplinary field communication, media technology and cultural theory in a reflective and methodological fashion.

The courses 2A1500/ED1100 Engineering Science, 7F1200 Technology, Communication and Learning, UCKOIN Educational Process, Communication and Learning and ICKOIN Student Context and Learning (the latter two are given by the Stockholm Institute of Education) or the equivalent.
