Oskar Vrethammar: En analys av Arthur Cayleys arbete "A memoir on the theory of matrices"

Abstract

In 1858, Arthur Cayley published the first paper on matrices. It contains a wealth of ideas, as well as much of the material in an introductory course in linear algebra. This essay is a close reading of Cayley's paper, and discusses among other topics, the fascinating similarities and dissimilarities of Cayley's approach to that of modern linear algebra texts.
