Nya medarbetare vid enheten Mekatronik inför hösten 2014

Publicerad 2014-09-05

Viacheslav Izosimov has joined us as a senior researcher, following 5 years at Semcon as an expert consultant in functional safety and embedded systems. He has worked on various assignments at Volvo Cars, Volvo Construction Equipment, Haldex/BorgWarner and Autoliv Electronics, as well as a number of internal R&D projects. As a result, he has extensive experience with many of tomorrow's embedded systems (from smart electrical vehicles to connectivity and night vision), and is the author of more than 30 scientific papers. He received the EDAA Outstanding Dissertation Award in 2011 and the DATE'05 Best Paper Award for his work on fault-tolerant embedded systems.

Although mainly a computer scientist (he did his Ph.D. in Computer Systems at the Embedded Laboratory in Linköping University in 2009), "Slava" has a broad range of interests including electrotechnology and embedded security. He will be involved in the Division's research projects, and will also teach in some of our basic and not so basic courses, whilst maintaining a tight connection to industry and "practical" life outside of KTH.

When not in the office (or on a plane or a train), "Slava’s" wife Eva and young son Philip keep him happily occupied. Any free time left over is spent swimming, cycling, playing squash, fishing and – as we saw so clearly in the competition on Wednesday – running!

Saad Bin Abid has joined us as a post-doc in a joint EU project (funded by ICT-Labs) which aims to seamlessly integrate tools from different software life cycle activities, ranging from requirements to testing and maintenance. With a Ph.D. in the software product line domain, he anticipates needing to draw on his 8 years of R&D experience, gleaned at the Software Engineering Institute (SRI) and the Athlone Institute of Technology (AIT).

Saad is no stranger to collaborative projects! His most recent role was working with the Enterprise Ireland project GEATA, targeting cheaper gateway development for building automation and energy management protocols. Even as far back as his MSc at Hogskolan I Jonkoping, he contributed to SEMCO, a joint project between academia (Jonkoping University and ISST Fraunhofer) and industry (Autoliv Electronics and Combitech AB).

Didem Gürdür is a new Ph.D. Student working with Martin Törngren in the EMC2-project, developing Integrated Engineering Environments. After graduating with honours and receiving the Best Final Year Project in her BSc at at the Computer Engineering department at EMU (Eastern Mediterranean University), Didem went on to complete her MSc degree in Sustainable Environment and Energy Systems at METU NCC (Middle East Technical University Northern Cyprus Campus). She has also spent time as a software developer for Outsource Software and worked as a teaching assistant at METU NCC.

When she’s not perfecting her cardboard vehicle driving skills, she likes to spend her free time scuba diving and dabbling in underwater photography and graphics design.
