SWIC offers testing and demonstration opportunities for KTH researchers
SWIC (Sjöstadsverket Water Innovation Centre) is owned by IVL Swedish Environmental Research Institute. It is a platform for the development, testing, scaling and demonstration of water, energy and material technologies, as well as system analyses.
Research activities at SWIC include – but are not limited to – sustainable water and wastewater treatment technologies, resource recovery from waste, and sustainable sludge management.
KTH and IVL have a collaboration agreement regarding SWIC, and Sahar Dalahmeh serves as KTH’s contact person. She encourages researchers at KTH to take advantage of the opportunities offered by SWIC.
Through the agreement, KTH researchers have access to bench space at SWIC and can carry out educational activities, including supervising thesis students based at the facility. KTH researchers may also use IVL’s pilot facilities at SWIC, subject to specific terms and fees.
Facilities at SWIC include:
- Access to different qualities of wastewater
- Aerobic and anaerobic treatment lines
- Membrane technologies
- Pilot-scale facilities that provide realistic results at affordable costs
- Mobile secondary and tertiary treatment modules
- Sludge handling and biogas production facilities
- System integration capabilities
