The aim of the course is to acquaint the student with biotechnological applications in different areas of the society. Basic knowledge within sustainability is provided to allow for reflection on the role of biotechnology in the society and its impact on humans and the environment. The student will also train searching and reviewing information as well as reporting orally and in writing, skills needed in the working environment in which the engineer is active.

Intended learning outcomes

After passing the course, the student has achieved the following objectives:

  • Demonstrate a professional and balanced ethical reasoning within biotechnology,
  • Demonstrate the ability to account for general ethical concepts and values that are relevant for the role of engineers in the society.
