FCH3201 Planning and Design of New Work Environments 7.5 credits

The course intends to provide basic knowledge of planning and design processes, in addition to providing knowledge and skills in how work environment aspects can be integrated into these processes. This includes methods and tools for buildings, premises and technical equipment to promote the health and well-being of the individual while at the same time enhancing the quality and efficiency of the operations system. Applications will be found primarily in industry, offices and services such as health care. Lectures and seminars will provide the necessary basis for the course, and project work provides an in-depth study.

Content and learning outcomes

Course disposition

Lectures, seminars/workshops and an individual project, partly on distance, mixed course.

Lectures 40 hours, seminars 40 hours and home work 120 hours.

Intended learning outcomes

  • Describe and discuss design projects, project management and suitable activities and methods for various phases and contexts.
  • Describe and discuss how different actors can be involved in a design project, what roles they can take on, and the political navigation within projects.
  • Describe and evaluate different methods, models and tools for planning work environments, and to reflect on their usefulness and relevance.
  • Describe and discuss planning work in practice and research in the field.
  • ·         Suggest how premises, workplaces and equipment can be designed in practical use, taking into account energy and sustainability aspects.
