FCK3309 The Research front Line in analytical Chemistry 4.5 credits

The students will present, discuss, and critically examine research associated to analytical chemistry. Hence, the students will be able to evaluate and reason about current analytical problems, and theory, and thus gain both a broader and deeper understanding of the scientific subject area. At least one senior researcher will be present at the seminars as a moderator. Each student will give at least two presentations, and will be main opponent at two presentations.

Course contents

The students will present, discuss and critically examine research associated to analytical chemistry. Hence, the students will be able to evaluate and reason about current analytical problems, and theory, and thus gain both a broader and deeper understanding of the scientific subject area. At least one senior researcher will be present at the seminars as a moderator. Each student will give at least two presentations, and will be main opponent at two presentations.

Intended learning outcomes

After passing the course the student be able to:

  • Show both broad and specialized knowledge in the scientific field of the course, regarding both theory and application
  • Pedagogically present, critically examine, and discuss their own and others scientific work within the subject area of analytical chemistry
  • Demonstrate insight into academic authorship, and the international scientific publishing landscape with relevance to the scientific subject area of the course
  • Identify, discuss and reflect on ethical and sustainability aspects in the research that are discussed within the framework of the scientific subject area of the course

Based on recommendation from KTH’s coordinator for disabilities, the examiner will decide how to adapt an examination for students with documented disability.

To pass the course the student must give two presentations, perform an opposition on two presentations, and participate actively in at least 80% of the seminars. Before each seminar, the students responsible for giving presentations should send a brief summary to the rest of the student group and the examiner.
