Content and learning outcomes

Course contents

In the course, lectures and seminares with discussion- and writing exercises are mixed. To support the ongoing learning process, small writing assignments are given where the student has the possibility of testing her/his knowledge before the exam. The exam is done through a written home exam and here, the student should be able to take a scientific standpoint, regarding onthology, epistemology in relation to the method chosen for the thesis.

Intended learning outcomes

After the course, the student shall:         

  1. be able to formulate a scientific question, for example the research question which will be studied in the thesis work         
  2. be able to chose a suitable method to investigate the research question         
  3. describe different qualitative and quantitative methods        
  4. account for different onthological and epistemological views         
  5. identify gender and ethical aspects in scientific work         
  6. use references in scientific writing and present a correct reference list         
  7. plan the method section of a thesis
