MG2037 Industrial Adhesive Bonding 6.0 credits

The course provides knowledge in the potential of industrial adhesive bonding. The course content provides an insight in the advantages of adhesive bonding. During the course participants will encounter many practical examples on industrial adhesive bonding.The course is developed in close collaboration with suppliers, industrial users and consultants.

Content and learning outcomes

Course contents

  • Survey of adhesives and different adhesive bonding solutions
  • Selection of adhesives for different materials and applications
  • Practical bonding theory (treatment of bonding surfaces, dosage, blending, appllication of bonds, joint formation and strength)
  • Estimation of bonding costs
  • Quality assurance
  • Work hygiene, risks and protectiion
  • Work environment legislation

Intended learning outcomes

After passing the course, the student will be able to:

  • account for different types of adhesive joints and their function and characteristics
  • apply theory of adhesive bonding to select a proper adhesive for a given problem and estimate the cost
  • describe the adhesive bonding process from preparation to verification and quality assurance
  • account for health and safety legislation related to industrial adhesive bonding and apply it for a given case
  • motivate the choice of adhesive joints for simple industrial applications
