Content and learning outcomes

Course contents

This course contains a major project work, advancements in solid mechanics and practise of some general engineering attributes.

Intended learning outcomes

After the course, the participant should be able to

  • apply knowledge and skills acquired in previous courses in solution of solid mechanics related problems
  • formulate a technical problem and apply methodology from solid mechanics to find and estimate the value of solutions to the problem
  • use individual learning methods for consolidation and widening of his/her knowledge in solid mechanics
  • present solutions to an engineering problem in a written report with demands for content, structure and use of language (comparable to the TNC norms)
  • identify and discuss ethical problems related to the engineering profession
  • show a professional behaviour when presenting his/her own work and when criticizing the work of others
  • use the basic terminology and tools for career planning
  • appreciate the foundation for technology based entrepreneurship

Specific prerequisites

The course content requires all compulsory courses of the first five semesters of the engineering programs BD, M, P or T. Furthermore, the course requires parallel studies of SE1025 FEM for engineering applications.
