Research programs

Our research areas include Imaging and non-invasive methods, AI in healthcare and Bioelectronic medicine.

Each research area is covered by one or more research programs. The research may include prevention as well as diagnosis and therapy. The areas are determined after the top managers of the major hospitals and the primary health care have identified needs, and Karolinska Institutet and KTH Royal Institute of Technology have commented on research interests and competence.

Project Calls

Projects are announced within the respective programs. An assessment group consisting of national and international experts is appointed by the steering committee. The assessment group proposes a ranking of applications. The steering committee then recommends which projects will be granted funds.

Clinical Relevance

To ensure clinical relevance in the projects, participation of volunteers and healthy subjects is a prerequisite. This is possible within MedTechLabs through the involvement of Region Stockholm. The projects within the centre should follow good clinical research practice (GCP), ethics testing teams and other ethics of care and research ethics. They should also be approved by the proper authorities.

Focus on recruitment of the Faculty of Applied Sciences

MedTechLabs also involves an effort to recruit young researchers to KTH and KI in the form of assistant lecturers. Collaboration in technology and clinical research creates the conditions for research results that can then be implemented in health care for the benefit of the patient.
