Congratulations to Olof Gustafsson for winning the 2023 "Uppsala Photon Science Award”

The Center for Photon Science at Uppsala University promotes photon sciences, including research use of synchrotron and spallation sources. The Centre's 2023 seminar was hosted by Professor Olle Björneholm, who arranged a programme that included:

  • Olof Karis, Director of MAX IV making an informal presentation about Status and plans for MAX IV. It was interesting to hear the proposals for relatively minor upgrades to the synchrotron itself in order for this world-leading facility to sustain its international attractiveness as other synchrotrons also upgrade to their 4th generation. Expansion plans, including the Opera beamline for the materials research community, were also a priority.
  • Hermann Dürr: The Ångström laser. A possibility for conducting synchrotron type research in more lab type environments.
  • Fredrik Eriksson, vice-Director of CeXS: The Swedish Materials Science beamline at PETRA III

as well as a talk by

  • Olof Gustafsson about his PhD thesis work which involved the design of a new sample environment for research experiments involving the fast charging and discharging of batteries.

Congratulations to Olof Gustafsson for winning the 2023 "Uppsala Photon Science Award”. The award was based on Olof’s PhD thesis work, which involved the design of a new sample environment for research experiments involving the fast charging and discharging of batteries.
